Independent Reading

We read to know we are not alone.

– C.S. Lewis

Independent reading is an integral part of our English class.  The research is endless on the benefits of reading – and reading frequently.  We will begin nearly every day with 10-15 minutes of independent reading.  That is how important it is!

To help you develop healthy reading habits, we have a requirement of reading 15 books throughout the year.  This includes the 4-5 in-class novels we will be reading.  The rest will be your choice, ensuring you choose from a few different genres.

E-Books from the Helena High Library as well as the Lewis and Clark Library are available as well as physical books from both libraries and our classroom library.
